2009-2010 Year in Review

More than 5,000 direct, hands-on volunteer hours were given through our community projects including Done in a Day, Saturday School at Annie R. Morning Elementary, Kids in the Kitchen, Fostering Care and our Community Research and Project Development committee. Each hour of volunteer time is valued at $20.85, the value of the Junior League of Jacksonville members' dedicated service to the community is more than $104,000.

  • We volunteered with more than 22 different non-profit agencies.

  • We donated 250 backpacks to Lea’s Place for children entering into the foster care system.

  • We taught more than 600 children about the importance of good nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle through our Kids in the Kitchen program.

  • Kids in the Kitchen expanded their program to include two additional sites—the Sanctuary on 8th Street and the Community Connections Davis Center

  • We received a grant from the Blue Foundation for “Snacktivities” a four-week program to teach the children at Annie R. Morgan about eating well and living a healthy lifestyle.

  • We continued our partnership with the Jacksonville Public Library for our Festival of Trees event. More than 30 beautifully decorated trees inspired by beloved books adorned the three floors of the library including the teen and children’s areas. We also offered 5 community events with guest readers and crafts.

  • We hosted our 19th annual Whale of a Sale which is not only the League’s largest and most successful fundraiser but also provides countless gently used items at low prices to the community.

  • We recognized sustaining (alumni) member Meg Folds with the Tillie K. Fowler Community Service Award for her outstanding leadership in the community and to the Junior League of Jacksonville.
