The Blue Foundation selected Junior League of Jacksonville as a grant recipient!
Meg Sacks
18 October 2009
CARES and KITK now have more resources for helping the children at Annie R. Morgan Elementary, due to a grant the Junior League was awarded in early October from The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida. The League was one of 17 organizations in Jacksonville that won a "Healthy Kids, Healthy Jacksonville Community Grant" to help fight childhood obesity. The League will use the funding to provide a nutrition-education activity and a healthy snack - a "snacktivity" - at breakfast time before four Saturday Schools through 2010. CARES volunteers will work with the children attending Saturday school to make a healthy snack that they can they share with their family at home. The funding will help provide the food and other materials needed for each "snacktivity."  According to the National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Equality, 32.5 percent of children living in Florida are overweight or obese.  The League is working to lower that statistic through our work with KITK and the opportunities CARES provides us through our relationship with Annie R. Morgan.
