Junior League of Toledo will participate in the Junior League Volunteer Day InitiativeJunior League of Toledo is participating in an exciting new initiative called Junior Leagues’ Kids in the Kitchen!Junior Leagues’ Kids in the Kitchen will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 10 to 2 pm at Fifth Third Field. The program addresses the growing issues of childhood obesity and poor nutrition. Since the early 1970’s, the number of overweight children ages 12-19 in the United States has doubled, and the number of overweight children ages 6-11 has tripled. Similar statistics are appearing in Mexico, Canada and the United Kingdom. Current increases in Type 2 diabetes may be one of the first consequences of an obesity epidemic among young people. Junior League of Toledo will be responsible for organizing a program in our community and securing partnerships and publicity support. We are among 225 Leagues who are participating. Our involvement will help combat potential health problems among today’s children and enable us to emphasize our leadership position in the social activism arena.More details will follow as we establish our local plans. Information is also available on the AJLI website, www.ajli.org. For questions about the program, contact Christine Mayle or Alyson Gabel.

Since 1933, the Junior League of Toledo has been training women by initiating such projects as the Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Ohio, YWCA Battered Women’s Shelter, Shots-4-Tots, CASA and the Docent Program at the Toledo Museum of Art. Throughout our seventy-five year history in Toledo, JLT has played a role in creating over one hundred successful projects that have had lasting impact in our community.
As a women's volunteer training organization, we have long provided this region with women who strive to be leaders in addressing our community's unmet needs. Today, JLT continues to search for strong projects that have an impact on our community. more>
