Our Community Impact
The Junior League of Yakima is a mission-driven organization. With our mission* as our guide we Impact our Community by:
1) Mobilizing and equipping community stakeholders to undertake long-term solutions that build on the community’s assets. We recognize that these assets include not only “things,” but the talents and diversity of the people who live in our community—our trained volunteers; and
2) Developing the potential of women so they can perform service in community.
Junior League members feel a deeper connection with their community and feel like they are making a lasting difference.
Testimonial from a Community Partner.
“It was so encouraging to have such a roomful of supportive women who care deeply about their community…you have a strong organization with lots of energy and commitment. Thank you for including us in the community support you are already engaged in.” --Elise DeGooyer, Northwest Harvest

Our Current Impact Projects.
The Junior League of Yakima is committed to improving the health and well-being of women and children in the community we serve. The Junior League of Yakima Community Impact Focus Statement.
At this time, the Junior League of Yakima is pursuing an in-house passion project dealing with the Childhood Obesity epidemic. Our community has been identified, like many in the nation, as lacking in the areas of healthy dietary choices and exercise. A large percentage of children in our community are obese and at risk for long-term, debilitating, chronic disease as a result. We are committed to addressing this harmful issue. In part, we are pursuing Kids in the Kitchen,* a project supported by Junior Leagues internationally, in the Yakima area. This fantastic program empowers youth to make healthy choices in the kitchen and beyond. We are also in the research stages of our own pilot project that will venture beyond the Kids in the Kitchen curriculum. Interested in working with us to reduce Childhood Obesity? Contact our main office at (509) 966-0930.
